What is Abrash
This refers to the hue or color change found on many older rugs, particularly
those woven by nomad tribes. Abrash also is indication of traditional materials
and dyeing practices. The variations in color are usually the result of inconsistent
dyeing of the wool, or through the introduction of a new wool batch while
weaving the carpet.
Is Abrash a Flaw?
The answer lies in the eyes of the beholder. Germans, by and large, don’t like
abrash. Other people enjoy the character that abrash seems to add to oriental
rugs. In tribal and village rugs, abrash often looks good and is by no means a
flaw. But you, the connoisseur, are the final judge.
